Leaf Relief Gutter Guards Avert Debris Problems
While
rain gutter guards are a major component of any roofing system, they
are arguably more vulnerable to damage than roofing shingles. After
all, debris from the roof usually end up in the gutters (unless the
roof is flat) and to avoid blockages, they need to be removed
regularly, which can become rather tedious as part of a home
maintenance measure.
Most homeowners install a gutter protection
system, such as leaf relief gutter guards to minimize the need for
cleaning and maintenance; but even then, the gutters aren’t exactly
hassle-free.
Clogs
and blockages, which are the more common problems encountered by
gutter systems everywhere, may still occur. Accumulations of dirt,
grime, and other refuse, which otherwise could be filtered out by the
gutter protection system, will cause scratches and cracks to appear
on the gutters, in turn, leading to leaks and water damage.
Water
damage is perhaps the most serious problem, however, because it can
also lead to mildew growth, which damages not only the gutters
themselves, but also the roof and siding of the house. Excess water
from the gutters often finds its way into the house, particularly the
basement. Water can also leave behind lasting damage on the
foundation of the house, weakening it, and rendering the place
vulnerable to a structural collapse in the future. Excess water can
also lead to soil erosion and ruin landscaping over time.
